YouTube - Booze It or Lose It with Tennessee Lobbyists

Memphis, TN –  February 6, 2008 -  A Tennessee State Representative plans to file a bill on behalf of a legislative committee that would permit lobbyists and their employers to spend up to $1,000 per year per legislator with a $75 cap on each meal and drinks. The current ethics policy, drafted in the aftermath of the Tennessee Waltz scandal, makes it tougher on lobbyists and the people who hire them from wining and dining lawmakers.

"It appears that someone has locked the liquor cabinet, and lawmakers are desperately attempting to pick the lock. It is a very sad day to see sober politicians trying to change the new ethics policy for a stiff drink,” says Tom Guleff of JoeCitizens.com. "There is simply no reason to change the ethics policy today.”  Lobbyists and their employers can buy their own drinks. It shouldn’t be a public service that legislative committees should endorse.
